Are Composite Veneers Adequate?

I’ve been looking at getting a smile makeover. It looks like composite and porcelain veneers are similar, but the composite veneers are significantly more affordable. Are they adequate for a smile makeover?

Mary,

If you’re just looking for an adequate smile, then sure, you could find a cosmetic dentist who will give you a smile makeover using composite veneers. However, if you’re looking for a high quality, stunning smile, then I’d suggest you go with porcelain veneers. It’s all about what you’re after.

If you’re just wanting to update your smile, you can get it done quite affordably with teeth whitening. Simple. Inexpensive. Takes years off your appearance.

If you want to change your smile, then veneers are the way to go. They’ll change the shape, size, color, character….everything. An expert cosmetic dentist will give you a stunning smile.

If you’re talking about composite versus porcelain veneers, it’s a difference of materials and longevity. If you were serving a dinner, you could do it affordably with chicken nuggets on plastic plates or you could make pasta in a white wine sauce, with a delicious green salad on fine china. It’s all on the impression you want to make.

Composite veneers are made from an engineered resin or plastic. They will not last as long as their porcelain counterparts and are much more likely to stain and chip. Additionally, they do not have the same aesthetic qualities you’ll get with porcelain.

Porcelain veneers, on the other hand, will last for many years. They’re stronger and more stain resistant than even your natural teeth, with the added benefit of being as translucent and natural looking as the dentin and enamel you were born with.
